The Legendary Train Map Returns with Counter-Strike 2!
Valve has just brought back the iconic and much-missed Counter-Strike map, Train, in a fresh CS2 update that also includes several changes to Overpass.
Counter-Strike 2 has been busy refreshing some of the most beloved CSGO maps, but one of the all-time fan-favorites had been notably absent: Train. This abandoned railyard is rich in memories for many players, and after some subtle hints, Valve has finally added it to CS2, bringing an even more immersive and atmospheric experience.
Train is not only a cornerstone of Counter-Strike history but also one of the most iconic maps in FPS games. Featured in CS 1.6, Source, and Global Offensive, this compact map has witnessed everything from legendary CSGO esports plays to Summit1g’s infamous molotov incident. Now, after a few teasers, Train has made its highly anticipated return in CS2—with a few updates.
One of the standout changes is the map’s visual makeover. With CS2’s enhanced graphics, Train now has a darker, moodier ambiance. The map is set under an overcast sky with grey clouds, while rain puddles accumulate on the ground, adding a gloomy edge.
Valve hinted at additional layout tweaks to keep the gameplay fresh: “You’ll find plenty of classic Counter-Strike feel in every corner of this map – but we’ve also introduced some gameplay changes to keep veteran Train players on their toes,” they shared in the announcement.
Train is now live in CS2, available in competitive, casual, and Deathmatch modes.
But that’s not all. Today’s update doesn’t just bring Train back; it also shakes up the CS2 map rotation. Community maps Thera, Mills, Assembly, and Momento have been removed. Alongside Train, two new maps, Basalt and Edin, join the competitive and casual modes, while Palais and Whistle make their debut in Wingman mode.
In addition, Overpass has received a substantial update based on community feedback. Over 20 adjustments were made to the map, including the addition of new objects to block problematic sightlines, removal of objects obstructing visibility, and a range of minor layout improvements.
